Recently, we had the opportunity to revamp a kitchen in San Clemente, CA. This remodel brought together custom cabinetry, modern fixtures, and expert craftsmanship to create a kitchen that not only looks stunning but also meets the needs of the homeowners. Kitchen Prep and Demolition – Laying the Foundation for Your Dream Kitchen
Before we dive into the exciting part of the remodel, a solid foundation of prep work was essential. We made sure to protect the existing spaces by providing plastic floor coverings from the entrance of the house all the way to the kitchen. This ensured that the rest of the home stayed clean while we worked. We also added plastic coverings to the entrance of the kitchen facing the dining room and secured them with soft tape on the walls, minimizing dust and damage.
Once everything was protected, we disconnected and carefully removed existing appliances, including the faucet, dishwasher, disposal, fridge, oven, microwave, and hood. The fridge was safely stored for reinstallation later, and the oven was disposed of. The kitchen was prepped for its transformation—ready for the new, modern upgrades to come.
Custom Cabinetry & Countertop Installations
With the space prepped, we began the most exciting phase of the remodel—custom cabinetry and countertops. We installed 45 linear feet of RTA cabinets, specifically Best Cheers Kovile – Tuscany Natural Wood, a stunning choice for the kitchen area. These cabinets were carefully designed and approved with the help of our computer design rendering. The attention to detail in every corner cabinet and drawer maximized storage space, ensuring the kitchen was both functional and stylish. We also installed a beautiful quartz countertop, selected by the homeowner, with a $600 slab allowance. The countertop was custom-fabricated to fit perfectly, and we added an undermount sink (with a $500 allowance) for a sleek, modern look. To top it off, the backsplash was finished with 30 sq ft of customer-selected porcelain tiles (allowance of $15/sq ft) in a timeless design.
Plumbing & Electrical Upgrades for a Modern Touch
In addition to cosmetic updates, we upgraded the plumbing and electrical systems. A new pipeline was installed for the sink, complete with upgraded angle valves for improved functionality. We also made necessary adjustments to electrical outlets and switches, upgrading three outlets and three switches, plus adding a dimmer for the lighting. Lighting is a crucial aspect of any kitchen, so we installed five LED can lights in key areas of the kitchen to provide bright, even illumination. The homeowner also provided a new faucet and disposal, which were carefully installed, along with the existing microwave and fridge.
Additional Work: Elevating Functionality and Style
To further elevate the space, we added several custom elements to enhance both the functionality and design of the kitchen. Our team installed a spice rack and three floating shelves by the window for additional storage and display. We also upgraded the pantry with four roll-out shelves to provide better organization and easy access to stored items.
The kitchen island was given special attention, with two outlets installed to power small appliances, and drawer bases for convenient storage beneath the cooktop and oven. We even installed a lazy Susan in a corner cabinet for easy access to stored items.
To ensure that everything was fully functional, we relocated the gas line by 3-4 inches and adjusted the hood location by 6-8 inches for better ventilation.
Drywall & Finishing Touches for a Polished Look
The final touches were made with attention to detail. We patched and textured the ceiling area (up to 50 sq ft) and touched up areas where drywall was needed. The baseboards were selected by the homeowner, and we installed 10 linear feet of custom baseboards to finish the space. The kitchen was also painted with a fresh coat of paint for a clean and polished look.
