Recently, we completed a full bathroom remodel in Coto de Caza, CA, transforming a tired, outdated bathroom into a modern and elegant space. Bathroom Preparation and Demolition
Before we could begin the exciting transformation, our team carefully prepared the space and removed any outdated elements. We provided and installed plastic floor coverings from the entrance of the house all the way to the bathroom area, ensuring the rest of the house remained clean throughout the project.
To protect the bathroom area, we also installed plastic coverings at the entrance and used soft tape to secure the plastic to the walls where necessary. Once everything was protected, we proceeded with the demolition process, which involved disconnecting the existing toilet (which was safely kept for reinstallation), and removing the floor tile, vanity cabinet, and vanity countertop. We also removed the existing shower door and shower tiles, prepping the space for a completely new and upgraded design.
Framing the New Shower
One of the main focal points of this remodel was expanding and enhancing the shower area. We framed a new shower with a dam (not a walk-in), ensuring both water control and a clean, polished look. The shower was designed with a new shower bench (if applicable), which adds a touch of functionality and comfort, perfect for anyone looking for a relaxing shower experience. To make the shower more functional, we also framed a new shampoo box, which offers organized space for shower essentials. The framing was followed by the installation of a single-function shower valve and a square drain, both of which were customer-provided. We then hot-mopped the shower pan, providing a durable base before installing the finishing touches.
Tiling and Materials
The choice of materials for the shower walls and floor was carefully selected to create a luxurious, spa-like ambiance in the bathroom. We installed 12 x 24 porcelain tiles on the shower walls, choosing the elegant Travo Beige Polished tiles from Tile World. The soft beige tones created a serene atmosphere, perfect for a relaxing retreat. For the shower pan, we used Goton Tiles Bebinca Grigio in a 2×2 format, adding a subtle yet stylish contrast to the shower walls.
To ensure the longevity of the tiling, we applied grout with sealant to protect the tiles and keep the bathroom looking pristine for years to come. The floor tiles were also carefully selected, using Mystic Grey 12×24 porcelain tiles from Tile World, which perfectly complemented the design of the shower walls, creating a cohesive and modern look throughout the space.
Custom Vanity and Countertop
A key feature of this remodel was the custom vanity that not only added style but also functionality. We provided and installed a 47-inch vanity cabinet, with a three-drawer configuration on the left side. The customer selected Cabinet R US - 24 SD Ash Brown Double Shaker, a beautiful shade that added warmth and sophistication to the space. On top of the vanity, we installed a 40-inch quartz countertop from Granada QHD - F188, which not only provided a luxurious look but also durability. The rectangular sink and customer-provided vanity faucet were installed, with sleek handles attached to complete the vanity setup.
Shower Glass Door, Lighting, and Electrical Upgrades
To complete the shower, we installed a custom shower glass door, which added a modern touch and allowed the new tile work to shine. As part of the overall design, we provided and installed one GFCI outlet on the left-hand side of the vanity, along with an outlet for an electric mirror and a dimmer for adjustable lighting.
Additionally, we upgraded the lighting system with three 6″ LED can lights, providing bright and energy-efficient illumination for the bathroom. The lighting was finished off with the installation of a new exhaust fan light, ensuring both comfort and ventilation in the bathroom.
Final Touches
Once the major installations were complete, we focused on the finishing touches. We patched and textured the drywall in selected areas, ensuring the walls were ready for paint. After the texture was applied, we painted the bathroom walls, skylight, ceiling, and baseboards to give the room a polished, clean finish. The installation of custom baseboards (10 LF) added a refined touch to the space, framing the bathroom beautifully. We also installed a medicine cabinet and grab bar, offering both style and practicality.
